The Worst Moving Company We've Ever Worked With

Comically bad move. Packers decided to load items into the bed of a personal pickup truck. The truck flipped on the highway, and presumably, our belongings ended up on the side of the road. The truck was impounded and we're not sure where some of our belongings ended up. 10 days after the move we did receive three beat up boxes with items haphazardly thrown in (including a live plant at the bottom of one of the boxes).

Like other reviewers, several pieces of furniture arrived broken. Thousands of dollars of items did not make it to our new home. After unpacking each box, we realize that we no longer have cookie sheets, cake pans, Pyrex, winter boots, coats, draperies, bedding, tools, and an entire California king bed-- to name just a few things we lost.

Among items broken were a 50' television, dining room buffet, table, two lamps, artwork, and an outdoor fountain. Making a claim is a lost cause as we would receive pennies on the dollar, and that's only if the claim was approved.

We've already spent thousands replacing the household items we need. This is our 24th move, and by far the least professional, most costly to date. I recommend no one deal with Providence and absolutely avoid Coach USA, the movers Providence brokered to haul our belongings.

Providence was great until the rep we worked with realized we had a problem. Then, he was nowhere to be found. He did not return calls, and when we finally tracked him down, he would say, "Oh! You were on my list of people to call today." Hmmm. For weeks, we were so frustrated that it became unhealthy. Not only were we dealing with moving to a new state, but we were continually reminded of how much the company's negligence was costing us. At this point, we have no moves left to make, other than report Providence and Coach to the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

Update: The company offered to settle for $90 today. Obviously, we do not consider this a good-faith offer and will pursue other options.

Very professional and very customer focused.

Very professional and very customer focused. They were quick and careful with our items. Also they went out of their way to fit us in with only a few days’ notice. They moved our entire house on a Friday afternoon after we had a scheduling conflict with a moving company we had booked dropped the ball. I called several moving companies and these guys were the only ones to make the effort to help us out. They truly saved us from a disaster. I cannot recommend them enough.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.

Took 30 whole days to get our stuff. We’re consistently told “oh it’s coming, it’ll be there in a couple of days”. We were living on air mattresses for 30 days as they had all our belongings. We were originally told 2-4 days. Our contract said 2-14 days based on our distanced move. Fine. But nope, 30 whole days. Double the contract, yet absolutely no compensation for it.

Also, after being lied to consistently, our sales rep, Andrew, just stopped responding or calling us back. He also told me they were not a broker (they are) and that the people who picked up our stuff would be the same ones dropping it off. That was a lie. It went and sat in a warehouse 300 miles in opposite direction of our move.

Also, they get you to sign with them by telling you “oh it sounds like you have X amount of stuff, which generally takes up X amount of cubic feet. So you will only be charged X amount and even less if you don’t take up that much space.” ….yeah they way under shoot that cubic foot number (they charge by cubic foot). Then when they come get your stuff, they tell you “oh well you have a lot more stuff so we have to charge you a ton of extra money for the space”.

My husband’s job was transferred to Louisiana from Florida and so we needed a company who could quickly transport our belongings. providence van lines came to the rescue. They did a great job packing up and moving everything. They were really professional, fast, and friendly. They made sure that all of our items made the long drive safely and in one piece. I just wanted to write a review recommending them and thanking them for making the moving process so much easier.

Their guys were always highly efficient!!!

This is the first time I have ever hired professionals to move me and these guys were awesome. They were so quick. I honestly couldn’t believe how mindful they were of our time. Their guys were always highly efficient and very courteous to every member of my family. If you need movers I highly recommend providence van lines. They are great all around from the staff to the movers themselves.

Guys were on time!!!

Choosing providence van lines was questionable since I really wanted to go with the movers I have used in the past, but since they were busy, I went with them. Nevertheless, that was the best choice I made because they were better than any other movers I used in the past! Guys were on time, friendly, dressed well and clean, amazing services. List goes on and goes but if you are looking for movers, these are the guys for you!

The movers from Providence van lines are amazing!

The movers from Providence van lines are amazing! I am so glad I found them. They moved us from our 4th floor walk-up to a high-rise halfway across the country and everything went flawlessly. The two movers showed up on time, were professional, courteous, and handled all our possessions with respect and care. The whole move was done immaculately and they stayed within their estimated timeframe. There is an intense inventory process where you have to list and detail every item you want to move, but then it makes the move so much easier because it's all included in the price and there's no haggling. I would definitely contact them in the future, and will recommend them to all my friends!!

All went smoothly.

All went smoothly. Came in right around estimate. One of the things that sold me was the follow up by the sales person. It was never overbearing. The guys who did the move were professional. The only thing that was a surprise was the I was asked to pay for a parking ticket (they didn't renew the parking in NY on time). It seems this is a custom in NYC, however it was new to me.

Buyer Beware! Scam!!!

Buyer beware! This is a bait and switch scam. Quoted us $15,000, and when they came to pick up our items (5 hours late) they tried to change the price to $27,000!!! When we refused and turned them away, they said we breached the contract and are refusing to give us back the $4,200 deposit. Do NOT use this company, you will regret it. Now having to pursue Legal action. RUN!

Terrible broker moving company/bait and switch

This company is a broker moving company. They broker the deal for local moving companies; however, they will never tell you this when you first contact them, and they are taking your deposit. This happened to my nephew and I, unfortunately we were moving at the same time, so we were unable to inform each other. I was unable to research the local company ahead of time and only found out that it was a different company on the day they picked up my items and I was signing the paperwork of all the items. Also, they hit me with the bait and switch. The original estimate was roughly for $3,700; however, they charge me an additional $2,000 as they said the items took up x amount of space in the truck. At this point I had no other option as I had to be out of my apartment that day. I was moving long distance from Nj to Florida, and they were 3 weeks late. Though they loaded my items in a moving truck they apparently switched them to a semi-truck and then charged me an additional $500 for moving my items back to a moving truck because semi-trucks are not allowed in my apartment complex because they are too big to make the turns. Lastly, they temporarily lost my bed footboard, which was given to me three days after the initial delivery. When I asked for a partial refund for being late, charging me extra for switching trucks, losing my items and bait and switched they gave me a bs answer that they are standard procedures in the moving industry. Terribly company.

They quoted me $5600 floor my move. It ended up at $6300. I did ship some extra things so that's understandable. They did a neck of a great job. I would definitely recommend Providence to anyone needing a great mover. Thank you!!!
